Spun offers multiple plans:

WhatsApp Inbox Plans:

  1. Free Trial - try Spun with a generous AI token allowance; the current trial length is shown on the signup page and in Settings → Plans (the plan name there always carries the live duration). There are two ways to start, and every new account chooses between them on a "How would you like to start?" page right after sign-up: the free trial with no credit card required (currently 7 days), or the paid start: pick Starter, Pro or Max and pay the plan price at checkout today, the second month is free, and the next charge comes at the start of the third month at the price in force then. The free month is once per organization and carries the plan's full monthly AI credit; the plan's features apply from day one, and cancelling during the first two months keeps access to the end of the second month, with no refund and no renewal. The page cannot be skipped or closed: one of its two buttons has to be pressed. Note: the trial does NOT unlock all features - translation rooms are capped to a small number of participants. Inbox sharing (Team Inbox) works during the trial, no upgrade needed.
  2. Starter - the entry paid plan. It includes the AI chatbot, voice translation, coaching, CRM sync, knowledge base, transcription, PII redaction, Self Proxy, all extensions, Connected AI apps (claude.ai, ChatGPT, Gemini over MCP), and Team Inbox with both full and partial/scoped access (Viewer, Team Member, Manager roles). Starter does NOT include chat flows, outgoing webhooks, recurring Google Sheets or file sync, proactive bots (proactive templates, campaigns and trigger rules) or REST API credentials (wap_ keys with integration scopes); those are Pro and Max features. Its AI tier is AI Assistance: AI that helps when you ask, for example summarizing a long chat before you reply.
  3. Pro - "Recommended for daily business operations". Everything in Starter plus chat flows, outgoing webhooks, recurring Google Sheets and file sync, proactive bots and REST API credentials, with a larger monthly AI allowance, more storage, and longer message history. Its AI tier is AI Workflows: AI that works on a schedule, for example a report each morning of who is waiting for a reply.
  4. Max - the largest plan, with the same complete feature set as Pro, for the heaviest AI use, the most storage and the longest message history. Its AI tier is Advanced AI Workflows: broader workflows that watch for events, for example an alert when a customer mentions cancellation.

The three plans used to be called Pro, Max 10x and Max 40x; Starter is the former Pro, Pro is the former Max 10x and Max is the former Max 40x, at the same prices. If a user mentions an old name, map it to the new one.

Pro and Max can do everything. Starter lacks five integration features: chat flows, outgoing webhooks, recurring Google Sheets or file sync, proactive bots and REST API credentials. Connected AI apps and MCP keys are on every paid plan including Starter. A Starter organization that tries to create one of the five gets a plan-limit notice naming the feature with an Upgrade path to Settings → Plan & Usage. Customers who subscribed before the current lineup keep a legacy version of their plan with every feature they had, so their existing chat flows, webhooks, syncs and bots keep running; a voluntary plan change moves them to the current plans. Beyond those five features the paid plans differ in capacity - monthly AI tokens, storage, how far back message history is kept, the price of adding extra WhatsApp numbers, and two usage allowances: Connected AI reads (Starter 2,000 per billing period; Pro and Max include Connected AI with no cap; the trial 300 for the whole trial; a Starter organization can add Connected AI for $25 a month instead of moving up) and messages analyzed by chat digests. Connected AI reads never use AI credit. The live plan comparison table on Settings → Plan & Usage shows both allowances. When someone asks which plan they need, ask whether they need chat flows, webhooks, recurring sheet/file sync, proactive bots or the REST API (Pro or Max) and about their expected AI usage and history requirements. Plans also differ in how many scheduled workflows (digests, monitors, check-ins, trigger rules) can run at once: moving to a plan with fewer workflow slots keeps the workflows the customer chooses (one on Starter, up to five on Pro) and pauses the rest with their configuration kept; an upgrade resumes them automatically.

Team members are unlimited and free on every plan that includes Team Inbox - per-seat billing has been retired; there are no per-seat fees.

Spun Chat Free Tier: Use Spun Chats without WhatsApp - free messaging, free AI token allowance, and token packs available for purchase.

PERISHABLE FACTS RULE: exact prices, token amounts, retention periods, storage sizes, participant caps, and the plan names themselves change over time and are NOT listed here. For current numbers, direct users to the live plan comparison table (Settings → Plan & Usage) or spun.com/pricing, or use the billing/plan actions, and never state remembered figures.

Token meter (Plan & Usage): The Settings → Plan & Usage tab is visible to EVERY role, not just admins. Organization managers are emailed (and get an in-app notice) when 90% of the month's AI tokens are used, immediately, and again when they run out; an 80% heads-up arrives in the next morning's digest email. When the organization's Connected AI reads reach the plan allowance, admins see it in the Connected AI line of the plan summary on Plan & Usage (the one-time grace period with its end date, or reads paused until the reset date). There is no automatic email or push for this; the Spun team may email managers about it. The token alerts can be switched off under the budget alerts setting. It shows the current period's AI token usage with a reset countdown, included vs bonus vs promo tokens shown separately (bonus carries over, promo expires at reset), burn rate with a projected run-out date range (or an honest "not enough history yet" note), a by-feature usage breakdown with a Manage link per row into AI settings (labeled as estimates), a voice call-out when voice features drive a large share of usage, other lines of a parent account that are running low (with a switch-line shortcut), and a bar chart of recent periods. There is also a resting one-line meter in the account menu (the percentage used and the reset date) for all roles, and a small amber/red pill next to the org switcher that appears only when tokens run low. Purchase, coupon, plan-change, subscription and billing-history controls are admin-only; members see usage read-only. Guests working in a shared inbox (sharees) see only whether AI is active/low/paused for the line, never the owning org's balances or numbers. The native iOS and Android apps are payment-silent: the Plan & Usage tab, plan comparison, prices, upgrade prompts and coupons do not appear there at all (usage read-outs on the General tab, the account-menu meter line and the low-token pill remain); never point an iOS user to the web to buy or upgrade, and on Android only say in plain text that plans and billing are managed on the web.

Trial calibration: the trial doubles as a fit-measurement week. On the plan selection page and on the trial-ended prompt, admins see their measured trial burn (how many AI tokens and voice minutes they used across the trial), the pace projected to a month, and which plan's monthly inclusion covers it - the matching plan is marked "Recommended for you". When the trial was too thin to project from (only a few active days or very few AI actions), the recommendation carries an explicit "estimate based on limited trial use" label. Trial accounts are always offered a plan UPGRADE, never token top-up packs - packs are for paying customers.

Card before connecting (trial card gate): on the web, a new account is asked to add a card BEFORE its WhatsApp number can connect, from the connect screen itself. Nothing is charged when the card is added; the trial starts the moment the number connects, and the first charge comes only when the trial ends, for the plan and amount shown on that screen (the screen quotes the live plan price, trial length and any coupon - never repeat remembered figures). An account whose free trial was already used sees the same card step with a note that the subscription starts when it connects. The screen offers "Chat with us" (the concierge) or "Book a call" for anyone who wants to talk first. After the card is saved the user lands back on the connect screen ("Card saved. Connect your number to start your trial") and the QR appears; if the confirmation is slow there is a "Check again" button and a note to refresh. Cancelling on the card page simply returns to the same screen. The screen also has a small "Have an access code?" link: an access code handed out by Spun (for example to beta testers) lets the account connect WITHOUT saving a card and run a card-free trial instead, for the trial length attached to that code (the code only ever lengthens a trial, never shortens one). Typing the code and pressing Apply shows "Code accepted. Connect your number to start your trial" and the QR appears; a code that is unknown, expired, already used up or not meant for this step always answers the same "That access code is not valid." (support can check why in the audit log, the screen never says). A code arrives in a gate link as ?code=... and is applied automatically. Codes are entered on this screen only, never at signup, and only by a manager. In the native iOS and Android apps the same step only says "Finish connecting on the web at web.spun.com" - no plan cards, prices or card entry appear there, though the access code link is available on the native step too. Accounts that connected before the gate existed are not asked for a card. While a card is on file the top banner reads "Card saved, nothing charged. Connect to start your trial" before the number connects, then "N days left in your trial. First charge on {date}" (with the amount when known) during the trial with a Manage button into the billing portal; if a charge fails the banner turns red with "We could not charge your card." and an "Update payment method" button. Such accounts never see the trial-expired prompt or the hard block: a saved card, an active card trial, a paid subscription or a payment problem is never treated as an expired trial. Settings → Plan & Usage shows "Update card" and "Cancel subscription" for admins with a subscription; both open the same Stripe billing portal.

When a free trial without a card ends (WhatsApp pause): the app itself is never locked: chats, contacts, tasks, settings and everything else stay open, only WhatsApp stops. In the last 2 days of the trial a banner says when the WhatsApp line in Spun stops. When the trial ends (day 7) WhatsApp is paused: every send from the line is refused (replies, forwards, reactions, scheduled messages, campaigns, broadcasts, auto-replies, chatbots and AI or API sends), the composer is replaced by a bar saying WhatsApp is paused, and the number stays connected and keeps receiving. Messages that arrive after the trial ended are shown locked ("New message. Pick a plan to read it.", and "Locked message" in the chat list, with how many are waiting) until a plan is picked. Picking a plan restores everything at once: sending works again, the locked messages open, and no new QR scan is needed. If no plan is picked, the number is disconnected 3 days later (day 10; the banner shows that date in advance) and connecting again means picking a plan and scanning a new QR code; the chats stay. After the trial ends without a plan, the connect screen asks for a plan before it shows a QR code, also while the old number is still connected (days 7 to 10), and a QR code that was on screen when the trial ended is withdrawn; once a plan is picked the connect screen shows a fresh QR code right away. An account with no sign of use for 90 days after its trial ended is deleted automatically, with a warning email 14 days and another 3 days before; any use resets the clock. Only an organization manager on the web sees the Upgrade button; team members and guests in a shared inbox are told to ask the account admin, and the native iOS and Android apps show the pause without any plan, price or upgrade wording. Accounts with a saved card, a card trial or a paid plan are never paused this way.

Additional features: First-time buyers can apply coupon codes for discounts and bonus tokens (admins only). All plans support token top-up packs for additional AI usage. The plan comparison table in Settings → Plan & Usage shows a detailed feature-by-feature breakdown. A Billing History section lists past invoices and payments (admins only).

To upgrade: Settings → Plan & Usage → click Upgrade (admins).

How AI tokens are counted: the token figure on the meter is cost-weighted, not the raw token count a model reports. Every AI operation is converted from its provider cost at a fixed tokens-per-dollar rate, so the figure depends on which model a feature runs on and on how much text it sends and receives, not only on the length of the answer you see. The by-feature breakdown on Plan & Usage shows where the tokens went; do not quote the conversion rate or model prices, they change.

Plan summary and comparison (Plan & Usage): below the token meter, the tab shows the AI credit used and available in US dollars, converted from tokens at face value (each AI action deducts its provider rate plus 30 percent). A plan summary card shows the current plan's monthly AI credit with its token count, how many scheduled AI workflows are in use out of the plan's slots (every role except sharees), and, for admins, the Connected AI state: included in the plan, add-on active, reads used this month out of the allowance with the reset date, the one-time grace period with its end date, or reads paused until the reset date. A compact "Compare the plans" table above the detailed comparison lists each plan's AI credit, scheduled workflows, Connected AI, staff reporting, business automation, general REST API and integration credentials, message history, storage and extra-number price, read from the live plan catalog; Pro is marked "Recommended for daily business operations". Staff reporting by plan: Starter does not include staff or group activity reports (asking for one returns a plan-limit notice with an Upgrade path); Pro includes basic reporting, the organization-wide totals only (activity totals, median response time, requests waiting and unanswered, overdue follow-ups) without per-person or per-group rows; Max includes advanced reporting with per-person and per-group comparisons and staff response-time (SLA) monitors. Existing SLA monitors are paused, never deleted, when a plan no longer includes them, and resume after an upgrade that restores them.

How to start (web): right after sign-up, every new organization manager sees a "How would you like to start?" page with two options: "Start free for 7 days" (no credit card required) or "Upgrade, pay now and get 1 month free" (pick Starter, Pro or Max and pay at checkout today; the second month is free, so the card says "Your next charge will be in 2 months. Cancel anytime." and each plan in the list shows the amount paid today). For an organization that cannot get the free month the option simply reads "Upgrade now". The free-trial length shown is the live one. The free month is given once per organization: an organization that already had it, already used a card trial or subscribed before pays normally from the first month. A coupon's discount applies to the first paid month and the free month still follows; a coupon's extra trial days do not apply to the paid start. Upgrading during the first month charges only the price difference for the rest of that month and keeps the free month on the new plan; the AI credit is granted again at the start of the free month even though that invoice is $0. There is no skip link and no way to close the page: one of the two buttons has to be pressed, and once pressed the page does not come back. A visitor who picked Starter, Pro or Max on spun.com (the pricing page or a landing page) sees that plan pre-selected on the card option ("Starter selected. After you sign up, you choose: 7 days free with no card, or upgrade now and get 1 month free." on the sign-up page), and its button goes straight to the secure card page for that plan; without a pick, "Choose a plan" opens the plan list first. The sign-up page itself says "7 days free with no card, or upgrade now and get 1 month free. You choose after sign-up." The plan buttons on spun.com (the pricing page and the landing pages) carry the same line, and the pricing page adds "Start free for 7 days with no card, or upgrade, pay now and get 1 month free. Your next charge will be in 2 months." There is no longer a 30-day trial with a card for new sign-ups. On the Team Share landing page, "Choose Starter" opens the sign-up window straight away with Starter carried. An organization whose free trial already started gets no extra trial when it subscribes: it is charged when it subscribes. A coupon that grants a longer trial still wins. Cancelling or leaving the card page lands the user in the inbox on the normal free trial without a card: nothing is lost and they are not asked again. Signing up in the native iOS or Android app never shows this page. A card can still be added later from Settings, Plan & Usage. Someone who joined an organization by invitation never sees this page (the choice belongs to the owner who signed up), and neither does a line added under a linked organization. A manager who later opens a second, brand-new workspace is asked again for that workspace.

How to use

  1. Go to Settings → Plan & Usage (all roles can open it).
  2. View your current plan, token usage with reset countdown, burn rate and projection, and the by-feature breakdown; use a row's Manage link to adjust or turn off a costly feature.
  3. Admins: click "Upgrade" to see plan options and compare features in a detailed comparison table.
  4. Apply a coupon code for first-time discounts.
  5. Purchase token top-up packs if you run out of AI tokens.
  6. Manage payment methods and review past invoices in the Billing History section. (Not available in the native iOS or Android apps, which have no plan or purchase screens.)
  7. When a plan change would leave more workflows running than the new plan includes (a trial ending or a downgrade), a screen first lists by name the workflows that keep running and the ones that pause; on Starter you pick the one that stays. Paused workflows keep their settings and resume when you upgrade.
